ARTIST Claudio Talavera-Ballón

A disciple of acclaimed artist Palao Berastain, he captures the essence of ordinary people’s lives across diverse regions and cultures of the Americas.

Talavera-Ballón is a Peruvian born, local artist, oil painter and muralist based in San Francisco. His work has been shown in several art galleries, museums and universities, internationally and in the U.S., including the U.S. Embassy, Lima, Peru; UCSF, the Peruvian Embassy, Washington D.C., UC Berkeley; the De Young Museum, and Galería de la Raza, in San Francisco.

He has been selected for the SF Arts Commission Artist Pool as a finalist in ArtSpan’s San Francisco Open Studios Guide Cover Competition. A feature on Univision of his painting series“Mujeres Luz” received three awards in Northern CA including an Emmy, a New America Media Ethnic Media Award, and an Excellence in Journalism Award from the Society of Professional Journalists for the Arts, Culture & Entertainment category.

His latest public art commissions include a 40×7 ft mural at the Transbay Transit Center in SF,and a 26×6 ft and a mural at “Hermanos en el Camino”, a migrant shelter in Oaxaca, Mexico
