ARTIST Joseph Vella

Beauty and sensitivity are given eternal existence from his hands to the canvas.

Joseph Vella was born in San Francisco. The native Californian, son of an Italian fisherman grew up with a deep appreciation for the beauty of his surroundings.

His subject matter, still life, reflects the neoclassic influence. Using the finest French oils, Vella’s works are reminiscent of the old masters, with a contemporary trompe l’oeil.

A self taught realistic, he became interested in paintings as a result of an industrial accident. Vella was introduced to the arts as a source of therapy. After years of perseverance and dedication, a new feeling of artistic expression developed, and limitations were replaced by greater levels of knowledge and understanding.

His technique reveals the clarity of detail and the dramatic plays of lights and shadows. As a purist, he takes his subjects from everyday life and creates a timeless ambiance with his choice of palette , texture, and subtle composition.

Beauty and sensitivity are given eternal existence from his hands to the canvas.
