Jared Blake Sines

He produced and sold many paintings during his time San Francisco State
College, where he studied art and creative writing.

In 1963, when Jared was 20 years old, he walked into Shreve and Co., a renowned San Francisco retail establishment that sold fine jewelry, silverware, porcelain, and fine art. In the large coat pockets of his “peacoat’ were three
miniature still lifes in the style of two other artists, Gerald Stinksi and Al Proom, who were showing their intricately detailed paintings in the display windows. He wanted to ask the man in charge of artworks, Walter Nagle, whether he thought his efforts had any merit. Walter looked at them and said, “These are very nice. Let’s get them framed and in the window.” Thus began Jared’s long career as an exhibiting artist.

He produced and sold many paintings during his time San Francisco State College, where he studied art and creative writing. Venues included J. Jessop and Sons in La Jolla, Pomeroy and Hoover Galleries in the city, and The Studio
Shop and Rorke’s in Burlingame. He also learned the advertising trade at his father’s agency, Raymond L. Sines and Associates, located near Union Square. After graduation, he married his College sweetheart, Carole Lee, and went to
work for his Dad. Several years later, after he and his wife had started their family, his paintings were accepted by the Zantman Galleries in Carmel, then the Garden Gallery in Half Moon Bay. Currently, His work may be found at the New Masters Gallery in Carmel, Portola Art Gallery at Allied Arts in Menlo Park, and most recently, Marcela’s Village Art Gallery in Menlo Park.

Jared is now retired from his latest profession, as a decorative artist rendering faux finishes, murals, and other creative projects commissioned by local designers and contractors. He and Carole Lee still live in San Mateo. Their grown children and five grandchildren also live in the bay area. Jared divides his time between teaching painting at the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto, working with his wife in his home and garden, producing paintings to show, and traveling.
